What is SEO?

SEO — Search Engine Optimisation — is the work of making a website findable in search engines like Google and Bing: sound technical foundations, pages that match what people actually search for, and the credibility signals search engines use to decide which results deserve to rank.

In practice, honest SEO is three jobs. Technical: the site can be crawled, indexed and understood — sitemaps, structure, speed, no broken plumbing. On-page: each page targets a real search and answers it properly. Authority: other credible places mention and link to you.

What SEO is not: a promise of rankings. Nobody controls Google. Anyone guaranteeing "page one" is guessing with your budget — the honest version promises the work and reports the results.

For a small business, the highest-value SEO is usually unglamorous: fixing the technical basics, writing pages for the searches customers actually make, and keeping business information consistent everywhere it appears.

The service: SilentShift does this work — SEO, from £1,000.
